Police cracks ATM cash theft mystery

Raigarh: On August 08 night the thieves pulled out the ATM machine of State Bank of India (SBI), opposite Circuit House, in Chandmari area and ran away with cash worth Rs 26.50 lakh kept in the cash box. The incident is reported to be that of around 2:00 in the night.

Immediately after the matter was reported SP Rakesh Agarwal formed a 10 member team which comprised of Addl. SP Abhishekh Verma, City SP, Kotwali Thana in- Charge, Chandradhar Thana in-Charge and other police officers. The team started collecting clues left by the unknown miscreants while taking out cash after breaking ATM machine. Based on the outputs from police informers some important leads came in the way of police team.

On that basis police arrested Two youths Suresh Gupta and Parmeshwar Bhagat ( both residents of village Mahloi under PS Tamnar) and their associate Kartik Bhagat. On interrogation they revealed of commiting this incident along with other members. The police is now looking for other absconding accused. The arrested accused when asked about how they stole the money from ATM narrated that all of them came in a four wheeler at 2:00 am in the night and dug out the entire ATM machine and loaded it in their vehicle.

Then they reached Hamirpur forest and after breaking the cash distributed the cash among themselves. From the possession of accused Rs 7,76,000 cash and a motorcycle worth Rs 70,000 from the stolen amount and another Platina Motorcycle worth Rs 70,000 from the accused Suresh Kumar and a Vivo Company phone worth Rs 10,000 from another accused Parmeshwar Bhagat were seized. The police also traced the abandoned ATM from the forest.
