In a statement that is sure to further heat up the domestic politics of India, the fugitive businessmen Vijay Mallya said that he had met the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley prior to escaping from country.
Some of the media reports suggest that there were may be several meetings between the two of them.
However, the embattled business tycoon refused to divulge the details of his meeting with the FM.
It may be noted that Mallya arrived at a London court earlier for a hearing in his extradition case, during which the judge reviewed a video of the Mumbai jail cell prepared by India for the disgraced businessman.
The fugitive liquor baron said that he had made a comprehensive settlement offer before the Karnataka High Court that will help in paying off all his dues.
It need be mentioned that Mallya has been on bail on an extradition warrant since he was arrested last year at the request of Indian authorities.
The 62-year-old boss of the defunct Kingfisher Airline — wanted in India on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to around Rs. 9,000 crore — had argued against his extradition.
His defence team had demanded an inspection of the jail cell.>
