Politics heats up in Bengal; after withdrawal of notification by SEC

opposition parties allege the decision is primarily because of the ruling party

With State Election Commission withdrawing the notification for extension of last date of filing nomination, it is now being alleged by the political parties that the commission has given in to the pressure from the ruling TMC.

The opposition parties allege the decision is primarily because of the ruling party exerting pressure and recalled how even the last state election commissioner had walked away being unable to take the pressure.

However, the TMC Member of Parliament and also a senior lawyer himself, Kalyan Banerjee, rubbished the allegations and said that they can also blame the opposition for having pressurized into withdrawal of notification.

It was late on Monday that the SEC in a notification informed the district administration that those who had not been able to submit their nomination forms would be able to do so from 11 am till 3 pm on Tuesday at respective BDO and SDO offices.
