Poverty forces Odisha woman to sell off her child; for meager Rs 12K

Amid talks of uplifting people out of poverty, a heart rending story emerged that a mother sold off his 11-day baby boy for Rs 12000.

The case is of Odisha’s Jharsuguda where a 20-yr-old woman named Sarita Ansari sold off her boy as she could not take care of him such was her level of poverty.

She is said to be a resident of Banjari village on the outskirts of Jharsuguda town, as per police.

Police said that the boy was sold off to Ramakrushna Sahu and Pradeep Guru of Sambalpur district the very next day for Rs 12,000.

However, the tip off led the police to act in time and rescue the baby while also arresting Sahu.

Police claims to be carrying on investigations into how the woman was approached for the child in the first place.
