Preparations to celebrate 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi begins

Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary will be celebrated across the work with due respect and dignity.

Today, Secretary of Union Ministry of Culture Mr. Raghvendra Singh in New Delhi had a discussion with Chief Secretaries and Secretaries of Cultural Department of all the state of the country through video conference.

Programmes for celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi will be organized from October 2, 2018 onwards, which will go on for two years.

Meanwhile, various quiz competitions, exhibitions, cycle rally and rallies based on teachings of Mahatma Gandhi will be organized in schools, colleges and universities across the country.

During video conferencing, Chhattisgarh Government’s Panchayat and Rural Development Department Additional Chief Secretary Mr. RP Mandal informed Union Culture Secretary that meeting regarding preparations for celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary was chaired by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and guidelines have already been issued.

This is in compliance to which extensive preparations have begun.

Mr. Mandal informed that during the Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th anniversary special programmes to be organized in state, Gandhi oxy-zones will be developed in nearly 171 Gram Panchayats of state, which have population of more than 5000.

Large number of peepal and neem trees will be planted in this oxyzone. Villages of these Gram Panchayats will also be made leprosy-free.

These villages of 171 Gram Panchayats have already been declared open defecation free. Solid-Liquid Waste Management action plan is also being chalked out for these villages.

Prestigious programmes will be held in places, where Mahatma Gandhi had visited in his lifetime. Mr. Mandal informed that as per Union Government’s guidelines, extensive preparations are being done in the state for these programmes.

Senior officials of Union Culture Ministry, along with officials of other departments, Chief Secretaries and other department officials of all the states were present in the video conference.

Among Chhattisgarh Government’s officials, Secretary Tourism and Culture Department and Health Department Mrs. Niharika Barik, Education Department Secretary Mr. Gaurav Dwivedi, and senior officials of Higher Education Department and State Government’s other departments were also present.
