Prime Minister Modi expressed regret on knowing mere ‘Vanakkam’ from beautiful Tamil language

Speaking to the students on the issue of exam stress today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned how he regrets that his knowledge of the “beautiful” Tamil language is limited to the greeting “Vanakkam.”

He said in response to a query that Tamil is the oldest language of the country and is ancient than Sanskrit itself.

He said that he knows only ‘vanakkam’ from Tamil language but wishes he knew more of the beautiful language that Tamil is.

Incidentally, the Tamil praise came at a time when two cine stars have both announced political stints in the state polity.

Modi was speaking at ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha,’ a special discussion on exams.

He also made it a point to apologize to his young audience for not being able to speak to them in other languages but added that he hoped translations would be available.

One of the questions the prime minister answered was about his own ‘exam’ – referring to next year’s general elections.

Earlier this month, Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj and Prakash Javadekar launched ‘Exam Warriors,’ a book in which Modi suggests methods for combating exam stress.
