Protests staged outside Indian Consulate General in Sri Lanka; here’s why

Protests were staged outside the Hambantota Consulate General of India

Protests were staged outside the Hambantota Consulate General of India by opposition leaders who were angry at the handing over of operations of Mattala Rajpakshe International Airport to India. Police resorted to using tear gas and mild cane-charge on the protesting leaders. Almost two dozen such leaders were rounded by the local police. It need be mentioned that nearby Hambantota port has been given to the Chinese for operations and protests had broken out even then.
