Punjab, Haryana remained on alert; in wake of anti-reservation protests

With anti-reservation protests organized on Tuesday, the police have been put on alert in Punjab and Haryana.

This is in wake of last week’s pro-reservation bandh that led to clashes in Kaithal area.

Even as there have not been major calls for Bandh, it is in Gujarat that Dalit leader and MLA Jignesh Mevani who has already warned of a “counter-protest” on April 14, which is also Dr B R Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

Mevani also urged all Dalit and tribal MPs to resign in order to build pressure on the Central government.

Meanwhile, the administration in Rajasthan’s Jaipur took to shutting down mobile internet service till 10 pm Tuesday as cautionary measure.

Similarly the Bhind administration too has ordered a flag march on Monday itself when the protest were on Tuesday.

This is when no major outfits have claimed to be supporting the call for Bandh in opposition to reservation.
