Quake strikes Peru, 7 on Richter scale

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck southeastern Peru.

The quake was also measured by the US Geological Survey.

It is said that the epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 257 kilometres (160 miles).

The US Geological Survey also said that most big quakes in South America occur at a depth of 70 kilometres or higher.
