Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday congratulated IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer Tina Dabi, who got married to her Kashmiri batch-mate Amir Athar Amirul Shafi Khan.
Dabi had topped the Union Public Service Commission’s civil services examination in 2015, while Khan had secured the second rank in the prestigious exam the same year.
The two young IAS officers got married at a ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir’s picturesque Pahalgam town on Sunday. Dabi hails from Delhi while Khan is from Devipora village in Mattan area of Anantnag in J&K.Taking to Twitter, Gandhi also wrote: “May your love grow from strength to strength and may you be an inspiration to all Indians in this age of growing intolerance and communal hatred. God bless you.” It was love at first sight for them, say Dabi and Khan.
They had met at the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) office in Delhi during the 2016 felicitation ceremony. The proximity between the two became the talk of the town when they posted a picture on social media a year ago.
Despite facing criticism for being in a relationship despite different religious backgrounds, the two continued to stand by their decisions. When the media sought Dabi’s reaction to it, she had said: “I think it is a small price to pay for being in the public eye.”
Family and friends of the couple attended the wedding ceremony which was held at a hotel in Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag District.>
