To digitize and empower India, modernization of villages and its
schools along with IT facility and other basic amenities is of utmost importance. Raikheda, a
village having a population of about 3500 is about 40 km away from the capital city Raipur
has now become the first village in Chhattisgarh to have their own website address. With
this the village is now connected globally with their own website address i.e.
www.morraikheda.com. This dream has come true with the help of GCEL Engineers from
department of Control & Instrumentations. Thought process of this innovation has come
from GMR group level social volunteering project process headed by GMR Varalakshmi
foundation. A team of 11 Engineers led by Mr. Shashank Sharma and his 10 engineers
Sandeep Dewangon, Ram Prasad Mishra, Vikas Verma, Vasudev Patil, Ravi Motwani,
Abhishek Sachan, Ashish Sisodia, Onkar Lal Maneria, Vineet Baxy and Pankaj Verma had
spent more than 20 hours on this project of digitization of Raikheda. It may be noted that
Raikheda is the Project affected village of GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd. (GCEL).
A team of Engineers along with the colleagues of GMR Varalakshmi foundation visited the
said village and conducted a meeting at GMRVF village development Center on June 26,
2017 and discussed with the villagers about various schemes run by the Govt. of India but
surprisingly found that villagers still depend on the proclamation system. Simultaneously
after demonetization, the villagers are facing problems on cashless transaction and even
bank ATM machines were also found closed in the evening, Sundays and holidays.
Further, Anganwadi (a kind of play school) in the village were also found in pathetic
conditions as the children were not attending regularly to study due to lack of amenities like
electricity, cleanliness and fun in learning like other play schools.
However the team in its review found that the villagers are using android phones with
internet connection but they are limiting the usage to only social media like whatsapp and
Facebook. Then our engineers decided to develop a website in the name of the village which
would have information about all welfare schemes run by govt. of India, competitive exams
and recruitments, agriculture, village events & activities, Sarpanch blogs, pictures and
advertisements along with career planning etc. This will help the village to be known
globally and the villagers would feel proud to be associated with such a village. But for
using online transaction system, the fear of change and insecurity, lack of knowledge was
the basic hurdle. This may be solved when proper hands-on training is given to solve
villager’s fear. Simultaneously the team also identified one Anganwadi where approx. 30
children registered but not attending the classes regularly hence to solve this, the team has
committed to modernize the Anganwadi by providing modern amenities.
The Team has divided the assignments for implementation process of the said project.
Where website Development & Village data collection, Training on internet awareness &
online transaction and modernization of Anganwadi is the primary focus of the project. And
Our group of engineers started data collection from gram panchayat, villagers and GMR
volunteers to develop website from external agencies but it was found costly hence decided
to develop it in-house and registered as www.morraikheda.com and launched at Govt. High
school, Raikheda keeping in view of the educated youth from std. 11 th & 12 th . Under the
digitization campaign, use of Internet & website benefits are shared with villagers, gram
panchayat Panch and Sarpanch, Janpad members, school teachers in VDC & CSR office.
Initially the website is registered for one year and after observing the usage and benefits,
would be renewed further.
Likewise in the village development center, the team has given the desktop computer with
internet connectivity and created a digital library. Training on internet usage, online banking
system and cashless transaction and its benefits provided to villagers, volunteers and high
school students on computer as well as android phone by Paytm, Bheem apps etc. almost
200 villagers have got training on digital transaction system and further to spreading the
knowledge and benefits of digital transaction to the remaining villagers, our team has
trained approx. 45 more GMRVF volunteers too.
Similarly our engineers have taken more steps to modernize the Anganwadi where children
were least interested to attend the classes as it was not eye-catching to the toddlers. Team
has found that it was due to lack of electricity, fun amenities, cleanliness and broken floors.
Then to develop fun in the tots, our team undertook to renovate the Anganwadi with
cartoon painting, lights, fans and backed LED television for smart classes (Rhymes, Poems,
cartoon films, stories etc.) besides different types of educative gadgets, toys, carpets,
chairs. At last the team has conducted one inauguration function to relaunch the Anganwadi
having new looks on 13 th Oct 2017 with the president ship of Ravi Shanker S – COO and
project GCEL, Dogendra Nayak – Ex president Municipal Committee Charman Tilda,
Devvrat Nayak Former Janpad Panchayat Chairman Tilda, Mr. Shashank Sharma GM-C&I,
and other distinguish guests. Children have been given school bags with books, drawing
copy, tiffin box, water bottle, Pencil, eraser sharpeners etc. along with many toys and
gadgets made available by our GCEL-ites under the campaign of “Spread Your Smile”.
Speaking on the occasion COO & project head Ravi Shanker Said “GCEL is always curious to
help the people of our surroundings. This is a unique initiative taken by our engineers to
show our Raikheda village globally with the website address. I am confident that not only
villagers but also who is out from here can get the information about this village and also
take benefits and improve their knowledge with the help of this”.
Guest Dogendra Nayak appreciated website address of his own village and says its benefits
to spectators. He also acknowledged the team of engineers who have done enormous work
to modernize the Anganwadi and training on digitization and cashless transactions. He
instructed Janpad members for sharing govt. schemes for updating website time to time.
While Devrat Nayak emphasised on career planning and counselling schemes of government
which are available in the website. “After modernization, Anganwadi seems like a
playschool” said Ms. Bhuneswari Verma – an Anganwadi teacher.
