In yet another grave picture as regards to employment scenario of the country, it has emerged that more than 25 million people have applied for the 90,000 jobs with the Railways.

To get an idea as to how big of a number 25 million is, it amounts to the entire population of Australia.

This is the situation in 2018 when the present government had come about with the promise that it would provide millions of jobs to the youngsters of the country.

Many initiatives were launched to realize this aspiration including that of Make In India but the promise of abundant jobs is still far fetched.

It need be mentioned that the railways currently employs 1.3 million people and has said that it was filling up tens of thousands of vacant positions for engine drivers, technicians, carpenters, track inspection crews and other positions related to improving safety in the world’s fourth-largest network.

The Railway Recruitment Board advertised for the positions last month and since then 25 million people have filed online applications from around the country, it was informed.

India’s unemployment rate surged to a 15-month high of 6.1 percent in February, according to some reports.
