Railways to introduce POS machines, to enable passengers pay online

In yet another major move, the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation has introduced on-the-spot bill generation for payment of food items on trains with Point of Sale (POS) machines.

It is now being said that over 2,000 Point of Sale (POS) hand-held devices have been introduced in Mail and Express trains.

The move is aimed at enabling the passengers pay their food bills on the spot through credit or debit cards on-board.

It is also likely to deter vendors from overcharging the passengers in trains.

With this new facility, passengers will be able to see the select the food items from the menu and pay for the food on the spot using credit/debit card.

IRCTC has launched this new initiative in order to reduce the number of unauthorised food vendors present at the Indian railway stations and to reduce the number of complaints from passengers of getting overcharged by the food vendors.
