Raipur hospital runs special weekly OPD for transgenders

In an initiative of its own kind, the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar hospital in Raipur (Chhattisgarh) is holding special OPDs for patients of transgender community every Thursday. Such patients would also be eligible for free operations according to their needs. It need be mentioned that social welfare department of the state government had carried out a survey across the state in which they had identified over three thousand such transgenders of which identity papers for over 300 have already been disbursed. Chhattisgarh government has announced that it aims to identify, educate, empower people of transgender community and bring them in mainstream of socio-economic measure.
