The makers have also released the Telugu and Hindi version of the new trailer on May 29.
Kaala, which is supposed to hit the theatres worldwide on June 7 may not release in Karnataka, courtesy Rajinikanth’s opinion on the Cauvery row. Sa Ra Govindu, President of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has stated that he’d request the theatre owners and distributors to not screen Kaala or be associated with the film in any way.
In a statement, Govindu said, “Kannadigas are upset with Rajinikanth’s comments on the Cauvery issue and so his film will not be released in Karnataka. As many as ten letters from various pro-Kannada groups have reached the Film Chamber, demanding a ban on Kaala in Karnataka. Considering the sentiments of Kannadigas, there is pressure on us to not release the film.”
According to the latest development, KFCC is holding talks with Goldie Films, distributor of Kaala in Karnataka. In an interview to a leading daily, Saurav, head of Goldie Films, said, “We are holding talks with KFCC to give final approval on the release of the film. A clear picture will emerge on the release by Thursday.”
Earlier, director SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion faced a similar issue in Karnataka. The film was banned because of Sathyaraj’s remarks on Cauvery issue that was made years ago. Later, Rajamouli and Sathyaraj issued an apology to let the film release in Karnataka.>
