Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Newton’ has been confirmed as India’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars next year. The film has been directed by Amit Masurkar where in Rajkummar Rao has been cast as a government clerk. He is sent on election duty to a Maoist-controlled town and an ideological struggle follows which puts him in an awkward situation. The film co-stars Raghubir Yadav and Anjali Patil. Rajkummar also posted a tweet in which he congratulated his team.
Newton released on September 22 and has been appreciated by critics all across the country. In his review for the Indo-Asian News Service, Subhash K Jha wrote: “This is one more triumphant performance for Rajkummar Rao who has made a habit of conferring a brilliant narrative to every character he plays. Really, it’s become a force of habit for this actor.”
