Arjun Kapoor is definitely on a roll, given the kind of projects that he has in his hands. The latest one, we hear, is the Hindi remake of a Malayalam film, Premam, which will be directed by Abhishek Kapoor.
The original film, which was released in 2015, was an unconventional love story which showed the lead actor, Nivin Pauly’s love life in three stages as an adolescent, college student and an adult.
Therefore, it featured Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastin and Anupama Parameswaran, who all made their debut with this one.
While the Hindi remake might have Arjun play Nivin’s role, the three actresses are still being considered.
“Arjun might soon be on-board for the Hindi remake of Premam. Abhishek Kapoor is currently working on the script while simultaneously working on Kedarnath. The female leads are being finalised,” a source reveals.
Alphonse Puthren directed the Malayalam film, which received positive critical response. Produced on a budget of Rs 4 crore, it grossed an estimated sum of Rs 60 crore worldwide.
In 2016, Premam was remade in Telugu, too, and it starred Naga Chaitanya, along with Shruti Haasan, while Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameswaran reprised their roles from the original film. The Telugu film was helmed by Chandoo Mondeti.
If all goes well, this will be Arjun’s second South remake as he is also said to have been finalised for the Hindi version of Arjun Reddy.
The remake rights have been bought by Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde of Cine1 Studios. Earlier reports had suggested that Shahid Kapoor was being roped in to play Arjun Reddy. But as per latest report in Mumbai Mirror, Arjun will be taking on the lead role.
Talking about Arjun’s other projects, he has Yash Raj Films’ Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Namaste England, both with Parineeti Chopra.
And then he is also on-board for Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat, which also stars Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt.
