RMC launches anti-plastic drive

Raipur: Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Sulabh International jointly launched a public awareness drive against plastic at Shastri Bazaar and Pandri Cloth Market.

Collector Dr S Bharatidasan is also holding a meeting of all RMC zone officers and voluntary organisation representatives at RMC headquarters here on September 13. Shop keepers and buyers at both the major markets in the city were asked to avoid using plastic bags through a rally which was taken out under the direction of Mayor Pramod Dubey and Municipal Commissioner Shiv Anant Tayal.

The rally was led by RMC solid waste management in charge officer and executive engineer Harendra Sahu and Sulabh International controller Sanjiv Choudhary. Participants in the rally carried posters and banners and distributed cloth bags among people and asked them to discard plastic bags. Stickers on plastic ban were displayed at various places.

In Pandri Cloth Market also the entire team visited shops and created awareness among traders and buyers. Rally was also taken out at various places in the city to encourage people to avoid use of plastic. Zone 4 executive engineer Subhash Chandrakar, ZHO Sulabh employees and NGO representatives were present on the occasion.

Similarly Zone 8 commissioner Pravin Gehlot and RMC staff took out a bike rally from Mahoba Bazaar to RMC headquarters to make people aware of the ill effects of the use of plastic. RMC officials said that entire team of RMC and Raipur Smart City will come to the streets to ban use of plastic altogether. Common people are being encouraged to join anti plastic drive through street corner plays and various activities. Support of various schools and colleges and government and non government institutions is also being sought in this drive..
