Raigarh: Unidentified robbers on Friday looted Rs 13 lakh from a cash van after shooting dead its driver and injuring a security guard in broad daylight in Kirodimal Nagar of Raigarh city in Raigarh here on Friday afternoon, police said.
The incident took place at around 2 pm at Azad Chowk in Kirodimal Nagar when the cash van had arrived to replenish a State Bank of India ATM, Raigarh Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma said. “Two men reached the spot in a motorcycle and fired six rounds with a firearm at van driver Arvind Patel and guard Vinod Patel and fled with Rs 13 lakh.
While Arvind died on the spot, Vinod is in hospital in a serious condition,” said Verma. Two cash custodians present in the van escaped unhurt, the official added. “CCTV footage of the area is being scanned to nab the culprits,” he said. TI Yuvraj Tiwari informed that all the borders to this district have been sealed and alert has been sounded in all the thanas. CCTV footages are being scanned to identify the accused.
As per information in this regard, the CMS Company’s cash van reached the SBI’s ATM at Kirodimal Nagar, to deposit cash worth Rs 17 lakh. During this two masked youth on bike reached teh site and flashed their weapon with intentions to loot and during this they even fired 6 bullets. In this one of the bullet hit the cash-van driver and he died on the spot and other got injured.
The two other sitting behind the cash van viz. Navratna Ratre and Kishan Ratre are reported to be safe. The accused ran away with cash worth Rs 13 lakh towads Bhupdevpur and Rs 4 lakh can be saved.
