Rohingya crisis to be raised in UNGA, affirms B’desh PM Hasina

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resolved to raise the issue of rehabilitation of Rohingya refugees in the United Nations General Assembly meeting as her country is having to cope with massive influx of refugees from Myanmar, where it is alleged that the authorities are torching their houses and inflicting atrocities. Amidst reports that India is also preparing to deport the illegal Rohingyas, the Amnesty International claiming that Myanmarese authorities are systematically torching the Muslim villages.Conditions are worsening by the day in the border town of Cox’s Bazar where the influx has added to pressures on Rohingya camps already overwhelmed with 3,00,000 people from earlier refugee waves.Myanmar’s government has maintained its denial that security forces have committed human rights abuses during the latest crackdown.”We need to support Aung San Suu Kyi and her leadership but also be very clear and unequivocal to the military power sharing in that government that this is unacceptable,” US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday of Myanmar’s first civilian leader in decades.
