SC considering if it needs to hear ‘GST on sanitary napkins’ petitions; heres more
With furore continuing over the imposition of Goods and Services Tax on sanitary napkins, the apex court is examining if the case should be heard by the Supreme court itself.
The top court has meanwhile stayed the proceedings in Delhi and Mumbai High Courts on matters relating to the issue.
It need be mentioned that there is currently 12 per cent GST levied on sanitary napkins and massive protests, both online and offline have been held on the issue.
The pleas pending in the courts essentially state that sanitary napkins, necessary for the women’s health, should have been kept out of the purview of the GST.
The government had come under fire for not exempting sanitary napkins from GST slabs.>
