With the implementation of the Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir, the security forces are now concerned mostly on providing security of the Amarnath Yatra.

It is said that the security forces have strengthened security across the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) to neutralize any attempt of infiltration by terrorists.

More emphasis has been to provide adequate forces for the Baltal and Pahalgam routes which are crucial in the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

With the Army chief having visited the Kashmir recently, the forces have been tasked to focus on law and order as well as counter-intelligence.

Such the scenario that Governor Vohra brought in former top cop Vijay Kumar, a counter-insurgency specialist, as one of his two advisers.

The Governor’s rule was imposed in the state within 24 hours of the breakdown of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – People’s Democratic Party (PDP) alliance in the state Assembly.

The two-month long pilgrimage to the 3,880 metre high cave shrine of Amarnath will commence on June 28.
