Sensex and Nifty’s : Top gainers and losers of Wednesday’s session

Equity benchmarks closed at fresh record highs on Wednesday. The 30-share Sensex rose 22 points or 0.06 per cent to end at a new peak of 36,162. The Nifty50 index settled 2 points or 0.02 per cent up at a fresh record of 11,086.

Shares of State Bank of India, GAILBSE 2.59 %, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ports SEZ, Tata Consultancy ServicesBSE 2.30 %, LupinBSE 2.09 %, HCL Technologies and UPL remained among the top gainers in the Nifty50 index.

However, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Eicher Motors, HindalcoBSE 2.02 % and Tata SteelBSE -2.13 % settled as the top losers of the day.

Out of total 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 28 settled in the green, whereas 22 remained in the red on Wednesday.

As many as 73 stocks hit fresh 52-week highs on NSE, compared with 18 stocks that touched their new 52- week lows on Wednesday.

With a gain of 3.49 per cent, Nifty PSU Bank index emerged as the top gainer among the sectoral indices, followed by Nifty OT index, which rose to 1.54 per cent.

,p>Nifty Metal index cracked 1.72 per cent to settle as the top loser sectoral index. Private bank, realty, media and auto were the other indices on NSE that closed the day in the red.
