Gujarat star paddlers Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah continued their brilliant performance on Junior Circuit. The pair bagged silver at the 2018 Czech Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championship in Hodonin Czechoslovakia.
In the final Manav-Manush went down to Chinese doubles team comprising Xu Yingbin and Yu Heyi 12-14 8-11 11-9 11-13. For record Manav became first Gujarati to top the world junior boys’ rankings last month.
Earlier, in the opposite half of the draw, in the penultimate round, Manush Utpalbhai Shah and Manav Vikash Thakkar had ended the progress of the formation comprising Egypt’s Youssef Abdel-Aziz and Italy’s Carlo Rossi, the no.3 seeds 13-11 11-8 11-7.
It was a tough final for Manav-Manush against the Chinese pair. But their upset win over No.3 pair of Youssef and Carlo in the semi-finals is worth appreciating.
The Gujarati’s have formed a formidable pair at the World Circuit. It is to be recalled at Manav-Manush pair victory was instrumental in India A’s gold-winning performance at 2017 ITTF World Junior Circuit India Junior and Cadet Open. Last year in September they had won doubles title at 2017 Slovenia Open Junior and Cadet Open in Otocec.
Vipul Mittra, IAS President Gujarat State Table Tennis Association congratulated both the players on winning the Silver medal.
