In a late Friday breaking development, the country’s Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar has resigned from his post.
It must be mentioned that in capacity of Solicitor General, he was the country’s second-most senior legal officer.
However, according to some media outlets, the resignation has come about on account of personal reasons.
Ranjit Kumar became Solicitor General in year 2014, after Narendra Modi government came to power.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi was appointed Attorney General of the central government at that time.
While Rohatgi resigned in June this year after declining an extension of his three-year term, the speculations since the time had picked up that even Ranjit Kumar would resign.
Both Rohatgi and Ranjit Kumar have cited personal reasons for their resignation. KK Venugopal took over as Attormey General after Mukul Rohatgi.>
