State level Water Utilization Committee meets, industrial allocation comes up for discussion

Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Sunil Kujur convened a meeting of state water utilization committee in Mahanadi Bhawan.

In the 46 th meeting of the committee, CS Sunil Kujur directed the officials to make onsite inspection and physical verification prior to water allotment for industrial purposes.

He said that water first needs to be allocated for drinking as well as daily usage of humans.

CS Kujur also warned that ground water must not be utilized for industrial purposes and any industrial premise caught in the act must be booked by the law.

He also directed the officials to evolve a law on usage of ground water resource of the state.

CS Sunil Kujur said that water must only be allocated once the industrial institution comes into being or becomes operational.

It must also be ensured, he said, that industries use whole of allocated portion of water and from the point allotted to them.

The meeting gave approval of water utilization to IIT in Bhilai-Kutelabhata of Durg district from Bhatgaon anicut built on Shivnath river.

The other six proposals were also marked for site inspection and physical verification.

Some of water allocation proposals as well as rate approvals that were deliberated in the meeting included M/s Shyam Ispat India Pvt Ltd from Banjarinala/Taraimal anicut, M/s Hi-Tech Power and Steel Ltd from Sarora diversion, Lara project of NTPC from Kelo river as well as M/s Jindal Power Ltd from Kurket river/Rabobandh.

The other such proposals included Nalwa Steel and Power Ltd from Raigarh-Taraimaal anicut, M/s Jindal Steel and Power Ltd power plant and proposed one as well.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary KDP Rao, Secretary PHE DD Singh, Secretary Water Resources Department Avinash Champavat, Special Secretary Energy Ankit Anand along with other officials
