Steel industry played crucial role in economic development of country: Union Minister Sahay

Union Minister of State for Steel Mr. Vishnudev Sahay today said that mines and steel industry played a vital role in the rapid economic development of the nation. He was inaugurating the two-day National Seminar jointly organized by the National Minerals’ Development Corporation (N.M.D.C.) and FICCI here. The symposium was organized on the auspicious occasion of the Diamond jubilee of N.M.D.C.

Khaitan, Government of India Steel Ministry Joint Secretary Mr. Sunil Vartavaal, FICCI Mining Committee Chairman Mr.Tuhin Mukherjee were Special Guests.

Mr. Sahay said that the Nagarnar Steel plant being built at a massive investment of Rs 20 thousand crore will begin in this year. He added that N.M.D.C. had created history this year in the production of minerals and sale which is a record of the past 60 years. The Union Minister invited investments in this sector. Royalty on minerals had been increased, and the states producing minerals are getting greater revenues after the establishment of Districts’ Minerals Fund. New avenues of development had been opened in the regions.

Mr. Vishnudev Sahay said that the excavation of minerals is done on eco-friendly methods by the N.M.D.C. The mines are allocated Five Star ratings. The seminar will open doors for more investments.

Mr. Amar Agrawal said that Chhattisgarh will attain the top spot in ‘Ease of Doing Business’ in the entire country soon. He added that the new Industrial Policy of the State had created a positive environment for steel and allied industries . Bastar will play a vital role in the economic development of Chhattisgarh and N.M.D.C. will be pillar. The District Minerals Funds had generated an additional funds of Rs 12 hundred crores for the region.

Mr. Baijendra Kumar said that after the inauguration of Nagarnar Steel plant this year there are immense possibilities for other allied industries to grow in the region. There will be far-reaching benefits in Bastar. He revealed that high-grade iron is obtained from Bialadilla. The N.M.D.C. had produced maximum minerals in the 60 years of its existence this year. As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility it has invested in education, health and sports fields. Education City Dantewada is role model for the entire nation.
