In a major decision, the top court of the country has asked the Lokpal Search Committee to complete its deliberations and submit a panel of names for the selection of Lokpal by February 28 of this year.
The Supreme Court bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked the search committee to submit its recommendation to Selection Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The search committee itself is led by retired SC judge Ranjana P Desai.
The court also directed government to provide all the necessary infrastructure for the Search Committee.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan requested the court to direct the search committee headed by Justice Desai to make public minutes of every deliberation and also the names in the panel submitted to Selection Committee.
To this, the court replied that the moment the search committee submits the name during hearings of the case on March 7, it will give the names to Bhushan.
Bhushan said he agreed with CJI, which prompted Justice Gogoi to tell him to start practising this from tomorrow.
