Tamil Nadu delegation to meet PM Modi; urge for Cauvery Mgmt Board within weeks
With summer approaching fast, the Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced leading a delegation of farmers and all parties to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding constitution of Cauvery Management Board within six weeks.
It need be mentioned that this has been directed by the Supreme Court (SC).
The decision to dispatch the delegation was taken at a meeting of all political parties and farmers’ associations on Thursday.
The meeting came about a week after the apex court’s verdict on the longstanding Cauvery water dispute.
The meeting also concluded on consulting the legal experts to file a review petition in the apex court.
It was on 16 February that the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to release 177.25 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft) of water to Tamil Nadu.
The water allocation is less than earlier 192tmcft allocated by a tribunal in 2007.
