It is yet a developing story as now more than 30,000 farmers continued their march towards Mumbai on Sunday with an aim to stage a protest outside the state legislature.
The farmers are up in agitation against what they term to be failure of the state government to respond to prevailing farm distress in Maharashtra.
The protest march of the farmers has been convened by Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha (ABKS), affiliated to the CPI (M).
It is said that the farmers are expected to reach the capital Mumbai by Sunday.
Amongst the demands made by the farmers includes farm loan waiver, transfer of forest land to tillers, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations and putting a stop to sharing the state’s water with Gujarat.
Meanwhile, in what could be worrying for the ruling BJP, the NDA allies Shiv Sena, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) of Raj Thackeray and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have also extended their support. >
