Three cheers for Manush


Left-handed paddler bags silver and two bronze medals at the Tunisia Junior and Cadet Open

Gandhidham : India’s junior star and Vadodara-based Manush Shah continued his medal winning spree on the international circuit with three medals including silver in the singles category at the 2018 Tunisia Junior and Cadet Open in Rades.

In the singles final, Manush went down to Ahmadian Amin of Iran in a closely fought contest 7-11 11-5 11-9 8-11 120-12 9-11. Earlier in the semifinals the SAG Shaktidoot Scheme player had blanked Amirreza Abbasi 11-7 11-2 11-7 11-9.

In the round of the last eight, Manush accounted for Singapore’s Pang Yew En Koen, the no.11 seed (11-5, 11-7, 16-14, 3-11, 10-12, 13-11), prior to recording a semi-final round success in opposition to Amirrez Abbasi.

However his biggest win was against Zhang Boao of China in the second round contest. The left-handed Manush emerged winner with a 11-8 4-11 9-11 6-11 12-10 11-8 11-9 scoreline.

In the doubles event, Manush paired with compatriot Manav Thakkar finished as semifinalist. The Gujarati duo had to satisfy with bronze medal after going down to China’s Wang Yihao and Zang Shangheng 16-14 1-11 10-12 7-11.

Left-handed Manush also bagged bronze in the team event along with Manav. India lost to Iran 2-3 in the semifinals.

Last month, Manush-Manav pair had won silver at the 2018 Czech Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championship in Hodon.
