With increasing emphasis on the women’s security in all walks of life, the North Eastern Railway (NER) now plans to deploy women police personnel on trains during night hours and also install ‘panic buttons’ in coaches.
The Railways has resolved to focus on “women and child safety” this year and thus it plans deployment of women police personnel in sub-urban trains during night hours as well.
The Railway Protection Force too will have recruitment of women.
But the ‘panic buttons’ in the coaches which will be linked with the guard coach is perhaps going to go a long way in ensuring the women’s safety.
Railway sources said that these buttons will be placed at convenient spots for easy reach of women travelers.>
