Transgenders to get their own public toilet facility in Nagpur; two sites selected
In a major decision, the Nagpur administration has announced construction of two public toilets for members of transgender community.
The decision came after representatives of the Sarthi Trust, which works for the transgender community, met District Collector Sachin Kurve and demanded separate public toilets for their community.
It was decided that the toilets would most likely be set up for transgender community in Pachpaoli and Sitabuldi areas.
The district Collector said that the sites had been finalized by the administration sources.
It emerged from sources in the Sarathi Trust that there were around 1,200 transgenders in the city.
The administration was apprised of health concerns of transgender community and the discrimination they sometimes face which is why the separate toilets was mooted. >
