Triple Talaq Crusader forced to have Nikah halala with father-in-law joins BJP

On a day when the government is trying to get triple talaq bill cleared in the Rajya Sabha, activist Nida Khan a triple talaq victim who was forced to have nikah halala with her father-in-law has joined BJP.

Triple talaq crusader, Nida Khan on Thursday announced that she will join the Bharatiya Janata Party in order to fight injustice against triple talaq, polygamy and nikah halala victims.

Nida, who is a triple talaq victim, made national headlines when a fatwa was issued against her by the influential Dargah Aala Hazrat.

She runs an NGO for women victims of Nikah halal and triple talaq. She told that she has been fighting polygamy, triple talaq and nikah halala at the “district level” and found that “almost every second family” has a victim.

She wants these issues to be addressed at the national level and therefore joined the BJP.She said she joined after a few leaders met her and asked her to join the party.

She wants the government to provide compensation to the victims so that they could fight legal battles and raise their families with dignity. She met Uttarakhand women and child welfare minister Rekha Arya fuelling speculations that she might join the BJP.

A fatwa was issued against her last month by All India Faizan-E-Madina Council announcing a cash reward of Rs 11,786 for anyone who chops off her hair.

According to reports she was threatened to be attacked with stones and told to leave the country within three days. Nida had who married Ahmed Raza Khan was harassed by her in-laws for dowry and forced to have nikah halala with her father-in-law.

Nikah halala is practice wherein a man is not allowed to marry her wife after a divorce unless she marries someone else and consummates the marriage with them.
