Trump administration top official acknowledges ‘India’ in its Indo-Pacific strategy

US has pleasantly noted how the incumbent central government has engaged with the leaders of ASEAN during the Republic day celebrations

As the Trump administration becomes ready to implement its ambitious free and open Indo-Pacific Strategy, the US officials are acknowledging the importance of India and the role that this largest democracy would play.

The US Indo-Pacific strategy is aimed at ensuring that the nations of the region be free from coercion.

This is largely being seen as in the context of China and the assertiveness it has shown in the South China sea over past few years.

The US for sure believes that India could very well play role on all crucial fronts be it security, economic or diplomatic.

The US has pleasantly noted how the incumbent central government has engaged with the leaders of ASEAN during the Republic day celebrations.

It need be mentioned that the Trump administration’s Indo Pacific strategy was briefed to the reporters by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Alex Wong.

Wong is said to have emphasized that it is in the interest of United States and also of the broader region that India plays an increasingly pro-active role in the region.

Trump administration is largely crucial as the population and the economic weight of the Indo Pacific grows and the United States also needs to intensify its engagement accordingly.
