In a significant development, the US President Donald Trump administration has appointed Neil Chatterjee as chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

It is said that Chatterjee is an avid supporter of subsidizing ageing coal and nuclear power plants.

Chatterjee is a Republican from coal-producing Kentucky and was a FERC commissioner.

It need be known that FERC is an independent office of the Department of Energy and makes decisions on electricity transmission and interstate natural gas pipelines and facilities.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump nominated the Republican Bernard McNamee, another prominent supporter of subsidizing ageing coal and nuclear plants, to a vacant seat on the panel.
