Situation escalated to the extent that clashes erupted that left the 11 injured in Nayaka village of Sami taluka in Patan.

While one of the injured was referred to Mehsana hospital, more than half a dozen were rushed to a private hospital in Patan for treatment.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon after a youth from Darbar community twirled his moustache while passing through a village street.

Sources said that the gesture attracted objections from the Nadoda (Patidar) community.

In matter of minutes, the village turned into a battle field with people from Nadoda community and Darbars attacking each other with sticks, pipes and sharp-edged weapons.

Police rushed to the village with extra force and brought the situation under control. By late evening the village had turned into police cantonment.
