A two-day National Workshop on Improvement of Agriculture Statistics was organised by the Statistical Wing of the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department at Panchkula, near here today, to chalk out new areas where the use of remote sensing, IT and satellites can be used in a more meaningful manner.
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. O.P. Dhankar, who was chief guest on first day, appreciated the work of the Department and the Stat wing.
He said that this workshop will give a new way and direction to the Agri Economists and Statisticians of the country which will help in formulation of better planning and policies which, in turn, will help in doubling the income of farmers of the state and the country.
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Finance, Mr. T.V.S.N. Prasad and ACS, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Mrs. Navraj Sandhu appreciated the work of the Statistical Wing.
Different participants from Government of India namely Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute, National Sample Survey Office, State Agricultural Universities and from Gujarat participated in the Workshop. Participants from India Meteorological Department Delhi and Chandigarh along with Haryana Kisan Ayog also participated besides Scientists from the Agricultural Economics-HAU.
Director General, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Mr. Ajit Balaji Joshi, Additional Director, Agri (Stat.) Mr. R.S. Solanki, Director, Haryana Economic and Statistical Analysis and officers from Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department were also present in the workshop.
