In a major development, police were able to nab two Romanian nationals in the national capital on suspicion of hacking into the accounts of more than 300 ATM users across India.
Police said that the men are believed to have already siphoned off about Rs 20 lakh from ATMs in Kolkata alone.
It is yet to be ascertained as to the total amount that they may have stolen.
The two were then brought to Kolkata where the local court has ordered them to be placed in police custody until August 18, police said.
He added that the two Romanians were believed to be part of an international gang that uses skimming devices on ATMs to steal debit card details of users.
Police has reasons to believe that the two may have had details of more than 300 card holders in India.>
