Threatening calls were made to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence, Matoshree, in Mumbai’s Bandra. The unknown caller claimed to be a member of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang and threatened to “Blow Up” Matoshree in the next few days.
Mumbai Crime Branch has started investigating the matter.It is suspecting that it could be a prank call.
The crime branch is not taking the threat call lightly and has beefed up the security outside Matoshree. The crime branch has made teams to trace the caller in the matter and will also inform the local police.
The caller rang up twice around 10.30 pm on Saturday, following which the police beefed up security at Thackeray’s bungalow located in Kalanagar Colony,an official said.
“Someone called up on ‘Matoshree’ phone number two times on Saturday night and said Dawood Ibrahim wanted to talk CM Uddhav Thackeray.However,the telephone operator did not transfer the call to the CM,” the official said. ”
“The caller did not reveal his identity,but only said that he was calling from Dubai on behalf of Dawood Ibrahim. Both the calls were received around 10.30 PM,” he added.
The Maharashtra government issued a statement over the unidentified calls and said, “State Cabinet expresses concern over the threat received to blow off CM Uddhav Thackeray’s house. The cabinet also condemned the incident”.
The state government also demanded Centre’s intervention in the matter.
