UIDAI gives fortnight to telcos, to plan delink of Aadhaar

telcos have been given given 15 days to submit a plan for this objective.

With the Supreme Court directive on the Aadhaar, the UIDAI has given a deadline of fortnight for telecom companies to stop 12-digit unique ID number for customer authentication.

The telcos have been given given 15 days to submit a plan for this objective.

Days after the Supreme Court imposed curbs on the use of Aadhaar, biometric-issuing authority UIDAI Monday sent a circular to telecom companies.

As per the circular, it is mentioned that all TSPs are called upon to immediately take actions in order to comply with the judgement dated 26.09.2018.

The TSPs are hereby directed to submit by 15th October, 2018 an action plan/exit plan to the authority for closure of use of Aadhaar based authentication systems.

The Supreme Court had in its ruling struck down Section 57 of the Aadhaar Act.

This will allow the private companies to use the 12-digit biometric ID-based eKYC.
