A day after the Indian security agencies took down more than a dozen militants in Jammu and Kashmir, the United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has expressed its concern over the situation.
The UN chief’s spokesperson said that all nations involved need to ensure protection of their civilians.
The exchange of fire that resulted in gunning down of 13 militants also led to martyrdom of three Army jawans and four civilians in Anantnag and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
A statement was issued by the UN chief’s office where in it was emphasized that Member States are responsible under international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
The UN Chief’s spokesperson also said that any loss of civilians needs to be investigated wherever they occur.
This was the reaction when asked as to whether this incident needs to be investigated.
