With mounting pressure over the ball tampering incident, the Captain and Vice-Captain of Australia’s national cricket team have finally resigned.
It need be recalled that cricketing world had been shaken up on captain Steve Smith after teammate Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera in the act.
It is said that he pulled a tape from his pocket and rubbed it on the ball on day three of the third Test against South Africa.
The scandal for obvious reasons caused outrage in Australia and evoked sharp reactions.
There have also been calls for a full investigation into the episode.
On Sunday, the resignations of Smith and vice-captain David Warner were announced in a statement from Cricket Australia.
The statement read, “Following discussions with Steve Smith and David Warner they have agreed to stand down as Captain and Vice-Captain respectively for the remainder of this Test match”.
