With way too much pressure from opposition parties and also media glare on the issue of alleged exploitation of girls in a shelter home in Bihar, the state government has recommended for a CBI probe into the issue.
The alleged sexual assaults took place on the girls at the Muzaffarpur shelter home.
Earlier, a nine-member team of opposition leaders led by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav visited the shelter home.
The leaders then accused the government of shielding the accused in the incident.
What is all the more damning is that the wife of an arrested accused claiming that social welfare minister Manju Verma’s husband used to visit shelter home without anyone accompanying him.
The Bihar government is cornered over this episode as the legislators of the opposition parties have been raising the issue in the ongoing monsoon session of the assembly.
The party leaders have been demanding immediate removal of the minister from the cabinet and the arrest of her husband Chandeshwar Verma, also a former MLC.
It need be mentioned that even Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said in Lok Sabha on July 24 that the central government is willing to initiate a probe by CBI if the state government recommended so.
The Opposition parties expressed satisfaction over the probe being handed over to CBI.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav meanwhile demanded that the CBI probe should be monitored by Patna High Court.>
