Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Science and Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan has said that the entire world including the World Health Organisation has appreciated the manner in which India has been effectively tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a conclave hosted by a local TV channel of Odisha through the virtual mode, Dr. Harsh Vardhan described India’s success in its fight against COVID-19 as unprecedented.
AIR correspondent reports that in a throwback to India’s initial pro-active response to the COVID-19 challenges. Dr Harsh Vardhan said that barely a few days after the WHO notified the world about the virus, India had issued necessary guidelines to the states along with the initiation of the points of entry surveillance at the airports.
The minister said, be it the earliest decision on lockdown or the preventive measures that include testing, tracking and treatment, down to developing the vaccine- India has been able to do it all in the shortest possible time.
He said that as on date, the country has vaccinated more than one crore sixty six lakh beneficiaries in more than three lakh 23 thousand session sites.
Apart from this, India has also made the vaccine available to more than 50 countries which runs in sync with India’s tag as the Pharmacy of the world.
Replying to a question, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that the vaccine safety, vaccine efficacy and their immunogenicity have not at all been compromised.
While thanking the Indian scientists for their immense contribution in India’s collective fight against Covid-19, the minister went to the extent of saying that the year 2020 will be remembered as much as the year of the pandemic as of the year of Science and scientific accomplishments.
