With the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh (UP) in a fix over how to handle the case of Unnao gang rape, the party’s woman leader Deepti Bhardwaj has come with a stand.
The stand may further embarrass the party.
Deepti Bhardwaj said to party President Amit Shah on the need to “save UP”.
he said that strict action needs to be taken to book the alleged perpetrators of a rape in which a BJP lawmaker is an accused.
Bharadwaj tweeted saying the decisions of the UP government are embarrassing the party and are also defeating the purpose and aspirations of the Prime Minister Modi.
She followed it up with another tweet, where she claimed that the “unfortunate events” that have taken place in UP are bound to shatter their organization’s hopes for the 2019 general elections.
Bharadwaj later defended her tweets and said she was right in drawing the BJP president’s attention.
It need be mentioned that an 18-year-old woman had alleged gang-rape by MLA Kuldip Sengar and his brothers last year.
She said that she had been confined to a hotel room by the district administration and her uncle was killed by the MLA’s brother and henchmen, who later also killed her father in police custody.
As protest, she tried to immolate herself outside CM’s house on Sunday demanding swift action in the case.
