The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has activated the link for applicants of the 2020 Civil Services Preliminary exam and Indian Forest Services to change their exam centre. The link was activated on July 7 on upsconline.nic.in.
The online portal was supposed to start operating from 6 pm on 7th July, but the portal was open for change by 2 pm. Heavy rush has been reported on the portal, as students are desperately willing to change their centre due to COVID-19.
The centre change has been activated in two way OTP format, where the portal will send a system generated mobile OTP as well as an email OTP. Applicants need to provide both the login OTP after entering their RID for further procedure. Note* The OTP is valid only for 30 minutes.
Applicants have been complaining of system failure and slow retrieval of OTP. According to sources, the email OTP and mobile OTP are both different. Applicants have been trying hard to fetch the OTP but they are receiving the said OTP after hours of struggle and is deemed invalid or expired by the online portal.
The Commission had informed on July 1 that request to change of centre will be considered on first-come-first-serve basis and once the capacity for a centre is reached, the same will be frozen. There has been major unrest amongst students following the deadline and the upsc technical assistance are not holding any accountability for the failed system. The portal for centre change was requested by many applicants due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 lockdown.
There is still no confirmation on any redressal measures if taken by NIC or UPSC to fix the havoc on the online centre-change portal. Looks like the government and NIC servers have yet again disappointed the young citizens of India with its slow and amateurish performance.
