US now moves to block resolution demanding probe into Gaza violence

Several hundreds were also reported to be injured with either live fire or through use of rubber bullets

In yet move of solidarity, the United States blocked a draft UN Security Council statement urging restraint and calling for an investigation of clashes on the Gaza-Israel border.

It need be mentioned that the incident left more than a dozen of the Gazans dead and the international condemning the violence.

The clashes erupted as tens of thousands of Gazans protested near the border on Friday.

But the Israeli forces resorted to using tear gas and live fire to force back demonstrators, who approached within a few hundred yards of the heavily fortified border fence.

Several hundreds were also reported to be injured with either live fire or through use of rubber bullets.

This was also confirmed by the Gaza health ministry.

The proposed statement was presented in the council by Kuwait and it called for independent and transparent investigation into the violence.

Though the draft statement was circulated to the council on Friday, it was on Saturday that the United States raised objections and clarified on not supporting it.
