With US bent on implementing the ban on Iran after pulling out of the nuclear deal it has now also asked countries including India to stop all oil imports from Iran.
It is said that the deadline has been set till November of this year.
The US by far has ruled out any exemption to India and Indian companies from its newly imposed Iranian sanctions.
When asked specifically if the US has also notified the two massive countries India and China on Iran sanctions, the state department official told reporters that it is so.
He said Indian and Chinese companies would be subject to the same sanctions as those in other countries.
It need be mentioned that given the huge energy needs, India and China are major importers of Iranian oil.
The state department official said that they would certainly like to oil imports of these two countries to go null.
The official said this is part of the Trump administration’s effort to isolate streams of Iranian funding and are looking to highlight the totality of Iran’s malign behaviour across the region.
This comes as the India and US are already slated to hold 2+2 dialogue next week.
