Responding to Indian Prime Minister Modi extending an invitation to the US President Donald Trump to be Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade, an American official said that the visit will take place at a suitable time.
The US official said that visit will also depend on the President’s other commitments.
The US official is Alice Wells, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, .
Wells pointed to the steady stream of US officials who visit India as a symbol of the close ties between the two countries at the official level.
That too reflects the density of the ties between our countries that I think we have over 40 major dialogues that take place between our government agencies and departments, she said.
PM Modi first met Trump in Washington in 2017 but also met him at other multilateral meetings.
However, having never having held such a parade, the Defence Department postponed it to possibly next year.>
